What this site collects
Server logs
The server records standard web-server information for each request: IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page and the browser’s user-agent string. These logs exist to keep the site running and to diagnose faults. They are not used to build a profile of you and they are not sold or shared.
Analytics
Google Analytics records aggregate traffic: which pages are read, roughly where visitors are in the world, and which links get clicked, so that effort goes to the pages people actually use. Google’s own browser opt-out add-on disables it entirely, and any tracker blocker will do the same. The site works exactly the same either way.
Browser storage
Apart from the Google Analytics cookies described above, nothing is written to your browser. The units you tick to compare are carried in the page address, which is what makes that comparison a link you can send to someone, and it goes away when you leave.
There are no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comment system and no advertising network on this site.
Affiliate links
Outage Geek is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. When you follow a “Check price on Amazon” link, Amazon sets a cookie that attributes purchases made in the following 24 hours to this site, and the site earns a small commission at no extra cost to you. A unit that is not sold on Amazon carries no link at all, and no maker, dealer or retailer pays for a unit to be listed. Commissions never affect which units are listed, how the lists are ordered, or what the complaints say.
Links to other sites
Apart from the Amazon links described above, nothing here tracks you to a shop. Any site you visit from here has its own privacy policy.
Children
This site is a product reference for adults. It is not directed at children under 13 and no information is knowingly collected from them.
