Best forCampers and apartment-sized backup users who want a light propane-capable inverter at about half the price of a Honda or Yamaha 2 kW unit.

The budget answer to the two Japanese 2 kW inverters: when the choice is between about $600 and $1,200, most owners take this one. It runs 1,850 watts on gasoline and 1,665 on propane, so a 20 lb tank gives the same generator a long, odorless standby fuel that does not go stale. Owners use it as a camping unit and for short outages, covering a fridge, a few lights, a router and a CPAP. The CO Shield sensor shuts it down if carbon monoxide builds near the unit, and the 53 dBA rating is measured at 23 feet, so it is not directly comparable with Honda's figure. What comes up again and again: a loud cold start, the fuel valve and propane hose being fiddly, a single duplex outlet so power has to be split carefully, and some reports of parts-and-service delays.
